Mike V, Larry R and Mike C have knocked the cover off the ball with this episode….If you have not been tuning into Monday’s with Mike (The title kinda says it all) then you are missing out. Mike V, Kristian Svitak and Ben Raybourn are my 2010 Bones Brigade. Not to mention Larry and Mike C are the new Stacey and Stecyk.
In this episode…Lucy V intro’s..Mike V kills it…Kristian does one crazy trick and Ben Raybourn pulls a Steve Steadham to fakie with no pads…somehow BR not making the cut is way better then seeing him win with a Helmet and glasses on.
Oh Yeah and 3:50! Maaaaaaaaan!
Its a Friday so its THOS TV time!
Episode 006: 1988 [En-Jay] Todd Laffler
Todd mastered what it took to be a great street skater back in the 80’s and it was during the 80’s he got his start as a photographer by creating the Epic Tome of 80’s East Coast Skate- Fish*Eye. All that skate photography has led to his current career as a professional photographer. I follow Todd’s blog and regardless of his subject I am always blown away by his photographs…here is an example of his more current skate photography…pretty nuts? right? and how about this past gem of Todd’s work:
Chris “Dune” Pastras by Todd Laffler
Fish*Eye Issue 1 by Todd Laffler, Mike Vallely Cover
….and as Mike V brought his brand of east coast 80’s street style to the world stage via the cover of Thrasher Todd was there alongside the other [En-Jay] rippers contributing to its development it in schoolyards, parking lots and unfinished basements.
I planned on adding some titles such as …Do you remember todd? or just because you are not famous that does not mean you are not great but then I thought sod all that nonsense we have nothing to prove here at THOS…its just one of my favorite videos and I dig watching it…hope you do too.

I am really excited, astonished and slightly nervous by the amount of subscribers THOS TV has and in such a short time as well. Thanks to everyone who is watching. If you want to support the show you can head over to I-tunes and leave a review or rating and in addition if you have anything videos you would like to submit please feel free to contact me.
Back in 2009 I was sent a vid of Romona from [En-Jay] Chris at S-one, that is when I saw Ben Raybourn huck a padless McTwist and was gobsmacked. Soon after I discovered LandShark wheels via another video of Ben killing it in the Bondai Bowl, san’s pads once again. I thought if you are gonna skate that aggressively with nothing to protect yourself but your wheels your gonna only ride good wheels. Then I discovered a video of Kristian Svitak skating while I was searching for a Damned song and got drawn in further. This all got my DIY Ethos Brain thinking and I suddenly wanted a shop that offered any choice of wheel as long as that choice was Landshark! So here is this new indy wheel company with these aggressive skaters, a great wheel that has a no flat spot guarantee with a name and a logo based on a bad tattoo decision by founder Kristian Svitak and the band FANG…what more could push one over the edge to the realisation that this could be the the greatest wheel company of all time…..then Mike Vallely and Bill Danforth decided to ride for them! That was it for me…. an email to Mike and a bit of back n forth and there you go….LandShark in THOS Shop and for all the reasons above I would be hard pressed to add another wheel.
So here is the multi-media recap:
Raybourn’s Pad less McTwist, catch a glimpse of Tag’s Frontside invert over the channel right afterwards too.
Raybourn kills it in the Bondai Bowl..LandShark discovered
Kristian Svitak discovered killing it on street to The Damned
Bad Tattoos make great Company names and logos….
FANG! Yeah I probably should have put up the LandShark song but this video is too badass to leave out.
Danforth is in……
so is Vallely.
So I put my money where my mouth is and THOS Shop is in too….
As you may surmise I am having a blast setting up and slowly building this shop, everyone is excited that it is growing via the community we have created and that it is supporting some old school values. Now that we are all burdened by the internet and its unlimited choices it feels cool to have a place that only offers ‘One’ Choice….the obvious one!
Cheers to everyone who helped make this happen. More to come…
Its funny just as Mike V is on an Epic Zumiez appearance tour I receive some great picture’s from Jeffrey Turko, back in the day owner of Earth Surfer Skate shop in NJ. Jeff and Earth Surfer were responsible for bringing a tremendous amount of pros to NJ (but The Earth Surfer Story is for a later larger post) Couple things to take away from these pictures besides the obvious…..
Check out the Board prices in the first pic…$45.99! Board prices have not budged in 20 years…were did we get the money back then to buy so many. It could be the equivalent of paying $200 for a board today ( I will let our financial experts do the present value calculation on this one)
The other thing is Mike V as a brand…he has ascended to the ranks of something like Harley Davidson…when people make the commitment to tattoo your logo on their bodies! they are not likely to change their decision in becoming a fan for life. Its all well deserved though Mike is out there on the front lines inspiring several generations across multiple artistic and athletic disciplines. Great guy to have on your side.
Check out Mike V online to see a lot more pics from this 2010 Shop tour on steroids.

That’s Jeff with his elbows on the counter.
Remember those plastic bags that Rector pads came in?
I had one of those finger board ramps too.
Checking out Skate vids on someones Itube.
Symmetrical snowboards were still a couple years away I guess.
Here is a selection of shots from the tour you can see a lot more at Mike V Dot Com
Here are two faces to names you should know:
Larry Ransom rocking the Skate Daily Tee shirt. Larry is the man behind the scenes that helps Mike V do the things he does. You can check out a lot of Larry’s killer video work over at LarryRansom.com as well and read his writings on MikeVallely.com. Along side him is our very own Derek Rinaldi you can check out his contributions all over the web: THOS, SkateDaily, Totally Skateboarding and Stereo Sound Agency…follow his writings before skateboarding makes it into the Olympics and ESPN makes an honest man out of him.
That is all

This video was a demo in Lynchburg VA. I dig this era of street skating, all the tricks still seem within the realm of possibility but yet still impossible….Mike Vallely skates realllll fast…Jason Lee shows he is one of the all time great street skaters …We know jesse martinez is great but not enough footage of him here….
