395: Cedar Crest Country Club: Dan Wharton

Got this great clip from John “Bubs” Bubniak he writes…

CCCC video of my old skating bud Dan Wharton… Love for you to post it.
Man, I miss the Crest… what a great ramp!.

Well here it is…
The skater is Dan Wharton, a great unknown skater from Woodbridge, VA. The music is off an early Agency 8 demo tape.

I totally dig the ass kicking unknown skaters …. Dan Wharton you are now officially just an ass kicking skater. Great shot of the Templified CCCC as well.

Nice one..

Sorry so slow I am on the move lately.

I don’t really know what to say about these pictures, just a couple of classic shots of a couple of classic skaters, Tom Groholski and Jamie Godfrey skating a classic ramp, Cedar Crest Country Club. They were taken in June of 1988, and I barely remember skating with them that day. I think I went with Tom, but I may have just met them there. I do remember thinking how cool it was to be skating with Jamie, seeing as he was a skater I had heard of so many times, he was one of the Bones Brigade! Of course it was cool skating with Tom, but then again it always is.

True that I live in Tennessee. No longer skate. I am a Certified Hand Therapist. I specialize in physical rehabilitation of the UE extremity ; fractures, burns, grafts, tendon or nerve injuries, rotator cuff repair, labral injuries etc…I live, eat, breathe physical medicine of the upper extremity…can be found on myspace….

I wonder if he still kills it on the fussball table?

348: Bad Brains and Scream Live at The Cedar Crest Country Club

Bad Brains & Scream Cedar Crest Country Club

Bad Brains and Scream at: VA’s Cedar Crest Country Club Ramp

What is it with Bands and skating…especially great bands and skating. I remember the only time the Barn was darkened was because the Raging Lamos needed the power cord for a show they played in The Kanes basement. I guess it takes a band of the Bad Brains caliber to stop the riding at CCCC..wish I went…anyone at this show wanna chime in? Oh yeah and whatever happened to that guy named Dave that was the drummer of Scream? One day he was hanging out drinking at The Fox and Hounds next thing I know he left DC…I wonder if anything came his way…..

256: I was the one in blue shorts holding the pool cleaning squeegee….Magnusson, CCCC, 1986

I totally dig getting these emails.

Thanks for this Rick!

Magnussen 1986 cccc highest air

Tony Magnusson highest air 1986 Cedar Crest Country Club

Hi I was just perusing the internet to see if the famous photo of
Magnusson’s air existed on the internet…I can’t believe I found it how
amazing. I just wanted to correct the article written about it. My name is
Rick Faber from Orlando/Longwood Florida, I was the one in blue shorts holding the pool
cleaning squeegee (not a broom stick) marking the 11 feet we marked off on
the 2×4. We had just finished skating in the 86 pro-am at Mount Trashmore
before we headed up to this amazing structure of a ramp we had heard
about…what a setting, its sad it burned down. I will never forget the
sound of Tony’s wheels screaming as he soared up and way over my head to one
of the largest airs ever on a half pipe of this size. Also this photo made
the cover of thrasher magazine just can’t remember what month I think Sept.
but it was 1986 when that photo was taken. Later Magnusson t-shirts and
sweatshirts were made with this photo screen printed as a graphic, I used to
have the T and wish I could find another. Anyway just a bit of history from
the guy who measured the highest air.

Thanks for making my day dude!
Rick Faber
