381: Hey look its Matt Padulo! Lets help him get The Charles River Skatepark(Boston) Back on track.

Hey Jason,

As I think I mentioned awhile back Boston has had a 30,000sf skate park in the making for about 5 years and is now currently “shovel ready”. I’ve attached an email below from the Charles River Conservancy calling for support. I’ve also attached the letter I’ve personally sent with a few words of my own added to the “letter of support”. Any help from the family of THOS would be greatly appreciated.

Matt

“We are now asking you—as a supporter of the Skatepark and the Conservancy—to contact Governor Deval Patrick and Director of Infrastructure Investment Jeffrey Simon and urge them to release the $1.85 million that EOEEA and DCR have requested to begin construction as soon as possible.
Please find below a letter of support and contact information for you to use. We encourage you to send it in as soon as possible.

Dear Friends of the Charles River Skatepark,

We recently sent you an update announcing that the Skatepark was included in the shovel-ready project list compiled by the Patrick administration as part of the Federal Stimulus Package.
We are now asking you—as a supporter of the Skatepark and the Conservancy—to contact Governor Deval Patrick and Director of Infrastructure Investment Jeffrey Simon and urge them to release the $1.85 million that EOEEA and DCR have requested to begin construction as soon as possible.

Please find below a letter of support and contact information for you to use. We encourage you to send it in as soon as possible.

And if you feel moved to do so, we would also ask that you contact the elected officials whose constituencies most benefit from the project. These include: U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy U.S. Senator John Kerry, U.S. Representative Michael Capuano, Senator Anthony Petruccelli, Representative Alice Wolf, and Representative Timothy Toomey.

As you know, the Charles River Conservancy has raised $2.5 million for the project; this funding, in addition to helping with design and project management, will also ensure the post-construction operations and maintenance of the park so that it remains a well-preserved asset of which the Commonwealth and all of us can be proud.

Thank you for your past and ongoing support of this exciting project!

Please send hard copies to:

–Governor Deval Patrick, State House, Office of the Governor, Room 360, Boston, MA 02133

–Director of Infrastructure Investment Jeffrey Simon, c/o Administration and Finance, State House, Room 373, Boston, MA 02133

LETTER OF SUPPORT RE THE CHARLES RIVER SKATEPARK

Dear Governor Patrick and Mr. Simon,

I am writing to urge you to allocate the $1.85 million requested by the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs and the Department of Conservation and Recreation to help design and construct the Charles River Skatepark under the loop ramps of the Zakim Bridge.

Over the last several months, the Charles River Conservancy has worked closely with these state agencies to provide an accurate description of the size and scope of the project and to accurately outline the potential immediate economic and long-term benefits associated with this world-class facility, including:

· Construction of a 30,000 sq. ft. concrete skatepark for local and regional athletes, which will be the premier facility of its kind within the Commonwealth and one of the largest on the East Coast

· Creating approximately 54 FTE jobs for construction, design, and project management

· Bringing an under-served user group to the urban parklands along the Charles River, as well as attracting tourists and possible events from around the country

· Redeveloping and improving the challenging under-bridge environment into a new and safer area of parkland that would otherwise be an under-utilized gravel lot

· Taking part in environmental cleanup of former industrial wasteland under the loop ramps of the Zakim Bridge.

The Charles River Conservancy has already raised $2.5 million for the project; this funding will help ensure the post-construction operations and maintenance of the park so that it remains a well-preserved asset of which the Commonwealth can be proud.

For all of these reasons, the Charles River Skatepark should receive your support and immediate funding. There are few “shovel ready” projects more worthy. We ask that you make it possible for construction of the park to begin as soon as possible.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Charles River Conservancy
