No one would let us snowboard on there ski slopes yet. Soon Alpine Mountain would be one of the first but until then when it snowed it was either ride The Barn or grab a shovel.
Maaan it would be cold at first then you would heat up start sweating and if you didnt keep skating you would freeze…and the ramp was extra hard when you slammed too.
Rocky Team Steam’s SBC captain did big stretchy eggplants and killer Indy airs too boot!

Who’s on Deck?…84 Tom Groholski’s ramp New Jersey
September 18, 2006

Bernie O’Dowd slob air at Tom Groholski’s ramp New Jersey 1984
Vallely used to skate Tom’s ramp. He was just some quiet kid we didn’t talk
to. I’m wearing a green Cooper hockey helmet that I bought at a skatepark in
the 70’s. Mertz told me years later that they all referred to me as “Pickel
Head”.

Bernie sent me this email and I have been laughing for days. It has inspired our newest category…Who’s on deck? (more to come)

TEAM STEAM CARD: DAN TAG 1987
September 17, 2006

Dan Tag Slug Ramp in the Snow 1987
I created a series (14 or 15 in all) of Team Steam Trading cards (they are actually stickers) in our High Schools graphic arts department in 1987.
They are as big as a baseball card and almost every member at the time had one, including the Barn itself and The Raging Lamos.
Special thanks goes to Mr. Abella our Graphics teacher for letting me hog the printing press all the time and floating us copious amounts of sticker paper. Mr Abella was the most skate friendly adult the world had seen at the time.

Team Steam Power crew member Jimmy Kane (Barn Ramp proprietor) doin his thing at The McDowalls. I always dug this photo and couldnt wait to put it up.
The McDowall Ramp:
Steve and Kevin McDowall both Watchung Hills Regional High School grads (this NJ high school produced so many skaters they should have made a vocational course in ramp construction and skating) built a monster ramp in there back yard. She was wide and tall just the way we liked em. It was a huge leap in construction from the 5 foot tall quarter pipe in there drive way.
We had alot of great sessions here with the locals, Jimmy Kane and the NJ Team Steam contingency.
Alot more photos of Jimmy Kane and The McDowall’s ramp coming soon.
